USATA
USATA by MarcoPolo opened its doors in October 2021. After fifteen years of selecting and selling used books, it is meant as a tribute to that world.
About fifty metres from MarcoPolo, also in Campo Santa Margherita, the bright colours of the space and the shop’s shelves make the books stand out and aim to make every visit special, like stepping into a cabinet of curiosities.
Most of the books on display or for sale at USATA were published in the 1960s and 1970s, and by now the 1980s too: books that are out of print, no longer on sale, or in editions that can no longer be found.
Second-hand books in Italian and English complete the range.
We don’t have an online catalogue of the books we sell, because we are here for the people who physically walk into the shop.
One of USATA’s windows has become the “home” of the tourist bed counter, an initiative by OCIO, a collective of residents and researchers concerned with housing and residency in Venice’s island city. HERE and HERE you can find an explanation of the counter and some data (in Italian). Alongside the counter, USATA displays two awareness campaigns created by OCIO: cosa tocca fare per campare (“what you have to do to get by”) and apri anche tu un hotel di locazioni turistiche (“open your own tourist-rental hotel too”).
